George Greenough is one of surfing’s and boating’s most eclectic genius’, designing everything from the ‘modern shortboard’ with radical new fin designs, to sailboards, high performance mats, and water oriented camera gear. What many aren’t as aware of is Greenough’s long held love affair with boat design in every form or purpose. In the mid 80s, after George had conceptualized a unique skiff with a revolutionary bottom design, he first built a prototype and then came to his friend Bill for help in generating a hull mold for a 17’ length. That mold is still in use today, and by this point, the Greenough 17 is a highly refined ‘big boat in a small package’, available in almost any configuration, be it center console, side console, or pilot house. Anderson Custom Boats has built every single incarnation of this design over the years, but today’s highly developed pilothouse version seems to be getting the most attention, offering an offshore capable, over-nightable, fuel efficient option for the boat owner looking for a lot of boat in an easily trailerable 17’ length. Available in single or twin outboard versions.
The Greenough hull is a unique tri-hull that is designed for efficiency and maximum planing capabilities. The hull design is a modified vee, with forward chines and a “w” stern that make it very suitable for West Coast sea conditions. This unique design enables the boat to stay on a plane and maintain a high speed in both forward sea and following sea conditions.
Construction is a hand-laid, vacuum bagged foam cored fiberglass hull, hand-constructed wood over fiberglass decks, and non-skid deck surfacing. Offered in center console, cuddy and pilot house models
